Arts & Enaction Instalment #3

Louwrien Wijers (1941, Aalten) lives near Hallum and works in Ferwert. She considers herself a sculptor: thanks to her eighteen-year collaboration with artist Joseph Beuys, she came to view writing and speaking as sculptural practices. Her work explores the relationship between art, science, spirituality, and economics. A pivotal moment in her career was the 1982 meeting she organised between Beuys and the Dalai Lama, which later led to her major project ‘Art meets Science and Spirituality in a changing Economy’ (1990). This project, which made headlines worldwide and was broadcast on television in 52 countries, is now being presented in its entirety for the first time.

Louwrien Wijers’ work has been exhibited at Witte de With (Rotterdam), BOZAR (Brussels), the Venice Biennale and various Dutch museums and galleries. The exhibition at the Fries Museum is her first solo museum presentation.

Carsten Aniksdal is a photographer and artist based in Oslo. After graduating from his film- and TV studies at Kristiania University College, he has mainly worked with lens-based media and sound installations, exploring landscapes, sites and space-time. In 2026 he publishes the photo-book Blok P (Mondo Books), a critical exploration of colonial architecture in Greenland. Aniksdal`s work has been exhibited at The Munch Museum (Oslo), The Annual Autumn Exhibition, Kunstnernes Hus (Oslo), Kunstrom Skogen (Asker) and Lydgalleriet (Bergen). Aniksdal was commissioned by the renowned composer Nils Henrik Asheim to create a site-specific filmatic piece for Stavanger Concert Hall.

Petrine Vinje, PhD. is a visual artist based in Oslo, who completed her doctorate project Surfacing Solids: Enactive-Aesthetic Investigations in Material, Memory and Meaning in 2024 (Oslo National Academy of the Arts). Petrine works in a large span of medias, creating conceptual site-specific sculptures and installations for public space as her main practice. Her work has been exhibited in numerous national and international group shows, as well as solo exhibitions at institutions such as Laboratorio Arte AC (TEC, Monterrey, Mexico 2025). Galleri F15 (Moss, Norway 2023), Fotogalleriet (Oslo, 2018), Historical Museum (Oslo, 2014). As artist, educator and writer, Petrine is informed by micro-phenomenology and a constant becoming with the not-yet-known.

Martijn van Beek is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and affiliated with the Interacting Minds Centre, both at Aarhus University, Denmark. Having worked and conducted research for many years on politics and development in Ladakh and elsewhere in the Himalayan region, for the past two decades his research has increasingly focused on the meeting ground between contemplative traditions, especially Buddhism, consciousness research and modernity. His research seeks to contribute to refining our understanding and the significance of emergent forms of contemplative ways of living for people and for the planet. He is also engaged in research on the (micro-)phenomenology of contemplative practice and experience. Martijn teaches sustainable ways of living and contemplative life in context, in theory and in practice at Aarhus University and elsewhere. He lives at Vaekstcenter, a contemplative community in Denmark.
