Mind Matters Book Launch

Anne-Lyse Chabert, a CNRS research fellow in philosophy in the IHRIM (Institute for the History of Representations and Ideas in Modernity) at the ENS Lyon, has recently published a book in French, Nos paroles empêchées, which will be translated into English soon. In 2017, she published Transformer le handicap au fil des expériences de vie with Erès, and Vivre son destin, vivre sa pensée in 2021 with Albin Michel. In December 2025, she published English translations of the two previous works (enriched with an additional, previously unpublished text): Transforming a Disability Through Everyday Life Experiences and Beyond Disability: A Matter of Listening (both with Lived Places Publishing). Her work explores themes related to vulnerability and how we connect with our environment when faced with some form of impairment.

David Parker is the co-founder and Publisher of Lived Places Expert Press, which has more than 2,000 titles in its catalogue today. He was also editor-in-chief at Pearson Education early in his career. David later launched Academic Video Online, the largest subscription collection of academic videos in use today in universities around the world. David is a leader in designing and implementing digital, multi-channel distribution of digital content for university libraries.Publishing.

Lived Places Publishing is David’s most recent effort at bringing together innovative thinking in publishing and distribution with doing important work in the world. At a moment in time when voices are being silenced and teaching the value of difference is under assault, LPP is much more than a business to David, it is a mission.

David contributes a monthly post to the American Library Association’s Toward Inclusive Excellence blog and he was a longtime contributor to Against the Grain with his column “Learning Belongs in the Library.” His writing has appeared in the Scholarly Kitchen, EdTech Times, UKSG Insights, and more. David consults with mission-based organizations seeking to build distribution of their teaching and learning content into university libraries. David is also a nationally ranked competitive triathlete, and a passionate connector of people who always, always, always answers his email!

Hanne De Jaegher is a philosopher and cognitive scientist. She notably developed the theory of participatory sense-making, together with Ezequiel Di Paolo. Participatory sense making theory is being used across academic and practical disciplines, from neuroscience to the arts and beyond. De Jaegher also researches and writes about autism and dementia, in close connection with people with lived experience, and innovates interactive methodologies. She thinks a lot about loving and knowing as both existential, tension-full relations, and how they can illuminate each other in philosophy, cognitive science, and our (intersubjective) lives. With Ezequiel Di Paolo and Elena Cuffari, she co-authored Linguistic Bodies: The Continuity between Life and Language (MIT Press, 2027). Currently, she is working as an in(ter)dependent scientific advisor and teacher, among other roles, for Mind & Life Europe.
