This privacy policy (the ‘Policy’) specifies for what purposes and how Mind & Life Europe, a non-profit organisation with a registered office at Bahnhofplatz 18, 8400 Winterhur, Switzerland (‘MLE’) collects and processes personal data pertaining to those who visit its website (the ‘Website’) available at <link www.mindandlife-europe.org/>http://www.mindandlife-europe.org/</link> and who subscribe to receive newsletters from MLE (the ‘Users’).
This Policy also aims at informing the Users on their rights in relation to the processing of their personal data, as well as on the way of exercising such rights. Please read this Policy carefully before you start browsing the Website.
1. WHY AND HOW DOES MLE COLLECT USERS’ PERSONAL DATA?
When Users access and browse the Website, MLE and/or its subcontractor may collect Users’ personal data relating to their browsing in order to perform statistics of visits of the Website and to improve Users’ experience of visiting the Website, in particular by proposing them content adapted to their interests and needs. The processing is based on MLE’s legitimate interest in analyzing and improving its Users’ experience, unless the personal data processed are derived from cookies, in which case the processing is based on Users’ consent.
When Users subscribe to receive newsletters from MLE, MLE asks them to provide their identification information and contact details and to consent to the processing, by MLE, of such personal data for the purpose of sending newsletters to Users, on the basis of their consent.
2. TO WHOM DOES MLE DISCLOSE USERS’ PERSONAL DATA?
Users’ personal data collected by and/or on behalf of MLE may only be disclosed to:
- authorized persons within MLE and its affiliates, on a need to know basis, in order to enable such persons to fulfill their functions, in accordance with the purposes for which such personal data was collected; and
- MLE’s subcontractors, which process Users’ personal data only upon instructions from MLE and ensure at least the same level of personal data security as MLE does.
3. MAY USERS’ PERSONAL DATA BE TRANSFERRED OUTSIDE OF THE EU AND SWITZERLAND?
In order to facilitate sending newsletters to Users, MLE may transfer Users’ personal data, including their identification and contact information, to its subcontractors located outside of the European Union and Switzerland, in particular in the United States.
Prior to proceeding with such transfers, MLE ensures that appropriate safeguards are implemented in conformity with applicable data protection laws (including the participation of the subcontractor in the Privacy Shield or the execution of appropriate contractual clauses).
4. WHAT RIGHTS DO USERS HAVE IN RELATION TO THE PROCESSING OF THEIR PERSONAL DATA BY AND/OR ON BEHALF OF MLE?
Users have right to access their personal data which is being processed by and/of on behalf of MLE and to ask for rectification of any inaccurate, incomplete or outdated personal data concerning them.
They also have right to object, on legitimate grounds relating to their particular situation, to the processing of their personal data, as well as to obtain the portability, restriction of processing and/or erasure of their personal data in cases provided by the applicable data protection law.
Moreover, Users are entitled to complain to a supervisory authority.
Finally, Users have the right to withdraw, at any time, their consent given for the processing of their personal data.

5. FOR HOW LONG IS USERS’ PERSONAL DATA RETAINED?
MLE endeavors not to retain Users’ personal data processed longer than it is allowed under the applicable data protection laws and, in any case, not longer than such personal data is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.
Personal data provided by Users to MLE when filling in the subscription form is retained by MLE as long as such Users remain subscribed to the newsletters. Each newsletter provides a hyperlink enabling Users to unsubscribe at any moment.
Personal data collected by MLE and/or its subcontractors during Users’ browsing of the Website is retained for a period of 6 months.
6. HOW USERS? PERSONAL DATA IS PROTECTED
MLE endeavors to implement and to have implemented by its subcontractors appropriate technical and organizational measures aimed at ensuring an adequate level of security of Users’ personal data, notably by preventing such personal data from accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorized disclosure thereof, or access thereto.
